The Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering is an education trust formed and managed by educationalists, philanthropists and technocrats of Visakhapatnam in 1996.

Departments

The college offers instruction to 540 undergraduate students in seven branches of engineering: Chemical, Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, ME, and IT. The CSE, ECE, Civil and Mechanical branches take 120 students, IT has an intake of 90, while the others take 60.

Facilities

The campus is located in peaceful Madhurawada, 30 minutes from the city of Visakhapatnam.

The campus has a library with 9200 titles, 34,000 volumes, 130 national journals, 70 international journals, as well as a Digital Library in which students can access 240 IEEE journals and 600 journals through the Springer link Engineering Data Unit.

Consultancies

The Industrial Consultancy Research and Development (ICRD) centre was started in 2001 to strengthen the colleges industry-institute interaction. The earnings for consultancy has reached Rs.20.00 lakhs. Some of the faculty members with their students are associated with private companies like GE and with central government’s NAHI.

The college has been selected by the J.N.T.U. from amongst its 180 affiliated colleges to be a nodal center (with constituent colleges at Kakinada, Ananthapur and Hyderabad) to offer the part-time contact-cum-correspondence course (CCC) leading to B.Tech degree for diploma holders.

The college has been selected by the government of Andhra Pradesh to be the implementing agency for setting up the Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT) at Visakhapatnam, an institute for advanced training supported by the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Germany through their funding agency, GTZ.

Students and ranking

Seven batches of students have graduated. The overall pass percentage of the students graduated has been around 94% of which 45% got distinctions and 35% got first class. The college has bagged several university ranks including first ranks during the last five years.

The students of GVP College of Engineering have performed well in national and international graduate-level competitive examinations. Ranks like 2, 3, 4 in national-level exams like GATE are common among the students.

The college conducts symposiums and national-level paper presentation events, with cooperation from industries nearby.

The college has an excellent record of campus placements. Students of 3rd and 4th years are placed into software companies like Satyam, Yahoo!, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Solivar, IBM, and into core companies like ITC, L&T. About 90% of the eligible candidates get placed every year.

The students have done well in extra- and co-curricular activities. Several of them have represented the JNT University in inter-university tournaments and won medals even in National Games. A student chapter of ISTE was formed in 2003.
